Rehabilitation Centre for Treated Mentally ill

Jewels International has established a Rehabilitation Centre for the Treated Mentally Ill at Dompada Block of Cuttack District. The Centre is functioning in collaboration with the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, UK, and the Banyan Organization, Chennai, India. At present there are 10 clients living in two community homes located in Subarna Pur village near to Dompada.

A full time Social Worker, Staff Nurse, and 4 Personal Assistants are providing service to them. The programme includes regular medical check-up and treatment as per advice of Consultant Psychiatrists. The rehabilitation programme is conducted following the Home Again Approach Model developed by the Banyan Organization.

Under this programme the clients are trained to do all the house-hold works, interact with the community members in the village, attend cultural, religious, and sports activities in the community, and engage in locally available vocational activities, like development and maintenance of a vegetable garden.

Rehabilitation of Treated Mentally Ill Persons belonging to High Economic Status (HES):

The Centre also provides residential care and vocational rehabilitation to the treated mentally ill persons belonging to families from the High Economic Status. Under this programme the parents or family members of the person will have bear the full cost of the rehabilitation which comes to Rs. 10,000/- to Rs. 15,000/- per month depending upon the level of care and treatment necessary for the person.
